Troubleshooting

This page covers common problems and how to fix them. If your issue is not listed here, visit our support page for additional help.

Device will not turn on

  • Check the battery. Connect the device to a charger and wait at least 15 minutes before trying again.
  • Check the charging cable. The T1000-E uses a magnetic cable that must be aligned correctly. Make sure the magnets are connected firmly.
  • Try a different USB port or charger. Some USB ports do not provide enough power.

Cannot connect to phone via Bluetooth

  • Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone.
  • Make sure the device is turned on and not in sleep mode.
  • Restart both your phone and the Meshtastic device.
  • Remove old pairings. Go to your phone's Bluetooth settings, find the Meshtastic device, and forget/remove it. Then pair again from the Meshtastic app.
  • Close other Bluetooth apps. Some apps can interfere with the Meshtastic connection.
  • Check the app version. Make sure you are using the latest version of the Meshtastic app.

Messages are not being received

  • Check the channel. Both devices must be on the same channel with the same encryption key.
  • Check the region setting. Both devices must be set to the same frequency region (Japan / JP).
  • Move closer. If devices are too far apart or there are obstacles between them, messages will not reach.
  • Check battery levels. A device with very low battery may stop transmitting.
  • Wait and retry. The mesh network can take a few seconds to route messages through relay nodes.

GPS position is not updating

  • Go outside. GPS requires a clear view of the sky. It does not work well indoors or under heavy tree cover.
  • Wait for GPS lock. After turning on the device, it can take 1-3 minutes to acquire a GPS fix, especially if the device has been off for a while.
  • Check position settings. In the app, go to Radio Configuration > Position and confirm that position broadcasting is enabled and the interval is set.
  • Check battery. GPS uses significant power. If the battery is very low, the device may disable GPS to conserve power.

Device shows wrong time

Meshtastic devices set their time from GPS. If the time is wrong:

  • Take the device outside and wait for a GPS lock
  • The time should correct itself within a few minutes

Settings were lost after a firmware update

Some firmware updates reset the device to factory defaults. After updating:

  1. Set the region back to Japan (JP)
  2. Re-enter your device name (long name and short name)
  3. Re-add your private channels
  4. Save all settings

This is why we recommend noting your settings before updating. See Firmware Updates for the full process.

Device resets or freezes

  • Update to the latest firmware. Older firmware versions may have bugs that cause crashes.
  • Reset to factory defaults. If the device keeps freezing, a factory reset may fix it. Note your settings first, then follow the reset procedure for your device.
  • Check for overheating. Devices left in direct sunlight on hot days can overheat and behave unpredictably. Move to shade.

App shows "No device connected"

  • The Bluetooth connection may have dropped. Close and reopen the app, then reconnect.
  • If your device is far from your phone (more than about 10 meters), Bluetooth may disconnect. Move closer.
  • Restart the device and try pairing again.
