Community

Meshtastic is an open source project with a global community. In Japan, the community is still growing, but there are already ways to connect with other users and contribute.

The global Meshtastic community

The Meshtastic project is developed by volunteers around the world. The main community spaces are:

The community primarily communicates in English. If you are comfortable reading English, these are excellent resources for troubleshooting, learning about new features, and connecting with experienced users.

Meshtastic in Japan

Meshtastic awareness in Japan is growing but still early. A few things to know:

  • Device availability has been limited. Until recently, finding Giteki-certified Meshtastic devices in Japan was difficult. Karida is working to change this by offering certified devices through our shop.
  • The community is small but enthusiastic. Japanese Meshtastic users tend to be technically curious and willing to experiment.
  • Language can be a barrier. The firmware, apps, and most documentation are in English. Japanese localization is improving but not always complete. If you notice missing translations, the Meshtastic project welcomes contributions.

How to get involved

You do not need to be a programmer to contribute:

  • Test and report. Use devices in your area and share your experience. Range reports from different Japanese terrain types help everyone.
  • Help with translation. The Meshtastic apps and firmware use community translations. Even translating a few screens into Japanese helps.
  • Introduce others. Show the technology to your hiking group, neighborhood association, or colleagues. Growing the local community improves the mesh for everyone.
  • Share your setup. Post about your configuration, range tests, and use cases. Real-world reports from Japan are valuable.

Karida's role

Karida is a small company based in Japan that sells Giteki-certified Meshtastic devices and provides Japanese-language support. We are part of the community, not a replacement for it.

  • We contribute to the ecosystem by making certified devices accessible in Japan.
  • We provide support in Japanese through our contact page.
  • We share practical knowledge through this documentation and our blog.

If you have questions about Meshtastic in Japan, whether about devices, regulations, or use cases, get in touch.

Field days and meetups

As the community grows, we hope to organize and support field days and meetups in Japan. These are informal gatherings where people bring their devices, test range, share tips, and learn from each other.

If you are interested in organizing or attending a Meshtastic gathering in your area, let us know through our contact page.
